As part of the programmes to publicise the Maiden Town Hall Meeting for the Campaign for Alma Mater Endowments, Mr. Abayomi Sobande, a trustee and also the Head of Service Ogun State was interviewed on Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation OGBC 2 and Ogun State Television on Monday 10th July, 2017 when he took time to present the vision and objectives of the Campaign.
The South West Town Hall Meeting/Maiden Official Launch of the Campaign for Alma Mater Endowments was convened by Educational Initiative for Development in Western Nigeria on Tuesday, 11th July 2017 at the DLK Events Centre, Abiola Way, Abeokuta. There was an impressive turn-out of stakeholders from various interest groups like: Association of Primary School Head teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Nigeria Automobile Technician Association (NATA), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Amalgamated Motorcycle Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN), Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Riders and Owners Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), Community Development Associations (CDAs), Association of Market Men and Women, Youth groups like Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade, Boys Scout, Red Cross, School Sport Federation among others.
His Excellency, the Governor of Ogun State was ably represented by the Commissioner of Development and Cooperatives, Mr. Gbenga Adenmosun. Mr. Segun Oyeleye the acting DG of DAWN Commission presented a paper titled “A History of Mass Education in Western Nigeria. Mr. Abayomi Sobande the Ogun State Head of Service who is also a trustee of the NGO presented a paper titled “Sharing the Vision of the Educational Initiative for Development in Western Nigeria”. The paper explained that the vision has 3 key areas:
- Fundamental Assumption of Educational Initiative for Development in Western Nigeria.
- Reality on Ground
- Campaign Features and Structures
For entertainment, Pa Olatunbosun Oladapo, the reknown akewi of Yorubaland recited sensational ‘ewi’ to further emphasize the theme of the Campaign while drama and traditional songs, were directed by Mr. Kola Obadimu Jnr. A communique which was later published in The Punch Newspaper on Thursday, 13th July 2017 was issued at the end of the event. The meeting was covered and reported by Nigerian Newspapers such as The Punch Newspaper, New Telegraph, Saturday Tribune, The Nation among others, and Televisions Stations like Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Abeokuta, Ogun State Television (OGTV).
